How are you all feeling after that great result on Saturday?
by Birmingham Mail4/8/2013 10:59:47 AM
Hello all. Do you think Matt Lowton meant it? Only kidding, what a GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:00:46 AM
As you can see Mat is very happy today.
by Birmingham Mail4/8/2013 11:01:02 AM
Massive 3 points. Starting to believe (maybe dangerous). How do you see it now? I think two more wins and we will be ok
by Adam4/8/2013 11:01:11 AM
course he meant it! Goal of the season?
by Adam4/8/2013 11:01:33 AM
Hi Matt, massive result Saturday. I agree, 39 points should see us safe?

was at the liverpool game and was pleasantly surprised by the difference in attitude against stoke....think sunderland are doomed now!
by stunirvana4/8/2013 11:03:11 AM
Adam, a few weeks ago I thought 37 points would do it, now I'm guessing it might take 39. So, yes, two wins would do it. I predicted last week that Villa would get 39 - but that included a draw at Stoke, so they are already two points up on that. A note of caution though, Villa's six-point cushion above the dropzone was quickly eroded a few weeks back, so I think there could still be a few ups and downs along the way.
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:03:25 AM
Stunirvana, I was a bit nervous when Stoke started brightly in the first five minutes and arguably they should have had a penalty. But Villa were due a break, they looked dangerous every time they went forward and in the end it would have been a travesty if they had not won the match
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:04:49 AM
If we do stay up, which I'm beginning to believe, do you think we'll continue to buy youth in the summer or more established signings after this season?
by Lichfield Villan4/8/2013 11:04:59 AM
Hope you’re well and enjoyed the win on Saturday!
Would you be able to offer any insight as to whether or not there is any truth in the rumours of Villa looking for new owners or at least some more significant funding to allow us to compete towards the other end of the league? Most Villa fans probably appreciate the need for financial stability and want to see our youthful side mature, but now we have cleared a lot of the deadwood from the squad, with possibly Given, Bent and Dunne to go as well, surely we must be looking to get in a few top pro’s to at least be up there with the likes of Everton? Kind of two questions merged into one there – sorry!
by London Villa boy4/8/2013 11:05:18 AM
Any talk surrounding arrivals and departures should we stay up?
by Jon4/8/2013 11:05:34 AM
Hi Mat are you surprised Simon Dawkins hasnt featured much? or is it a case of keeping a winning side?
by stroudvilladan4/8/2013 11:06:43 AM
Lichfield Villan, I personally still believe Villa need a couple of tried and trusted players in there - and I believe if they had boasted a bit more experience this season then some of the closer results earlier in the campaign might have gone their way. I don't think Lambert will change his policy of recruiting young and hungry and I don't think the board will suddenly throw big money at it, but I hope there is still some scope to buy some proven players as well as the players with potential
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:07:08 AM
Great to see so many of you joining us and everyone in such a good mood. That's how we like it.
by Birmingham Mail4/8/2013 11:07:42 AM
settle a debate here at work - Lukaku or Benteke?
by Adam4/8/2013 11:08:14 AM
LondonVillaBoy, stories about new owners have been doing the rounds for over a year now, but whenever I have checked them out I have struggled to find evidence to stand them up. Villa insist the chairman is still committed to the club. I agree that the young players need a helping hand, but I don't see the board deviating away from the current policy too much
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:09:23 AM
can you ask your mate Tom Hanks to lend us some cash?
by Adam4/8/2013 11:09:48 AM
benteke by a mile
by stroudvilladan4/8/2013 11:09:52 AM
Matt, have you spoken to anyone at Villa regarding their ambition for next season? If we stay up will there be money to spend or will we be buying players from lower leagues and crossing our fingers again?
by Keith4/8/2013 11:10:05 AM
Hi Mat, gr8 win on Sat - 'think' we will et ou of it now, Norwich are my faves to go now, cant see goals under pressure in that team!
by G4/8/2013 11:10:28 AM
Stroudvilladan, I think Dawkins was signed purely on the basis of 'let's see what he can do'. Right now the players in the forward/wide positions - Agbonlahor, Weimann, N'Zogbia - and even Bowery on Saturay - are performing well, so Dawkins will have to remain patient in the hope of staying beyond his short term deal which expires in the summer

Any news of Petrov yet Matt
by Any news of Petrov yet Matt4/8/2013 11:11:36 AM
any news on what happened to bannan?
by al4/8/2013 11:11:40 AM
lets not be cautious today - not many mondays we have all been smiling! Two wins, we have sunderland, norwich, wigan, Fulham - all winnable
by Adam4/8/2013 11:11:45 AM
Adam - Lukaku or Benteke what? Who I would rather fight? Neither!
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:11:54 AM
Bentekke looks really happy and bonded with the team right now (obviously scoring helps). How do you rate our chances of keeping him and silencing his agent?
by Tim4/8/2013 11:12:35 AM
Adam, Hanksy doesn't call me, doesn't write or text me any more. Think his new best friend is a volleyball!
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:12:44 AM
Keith, I think everybody at Villa is simply focused on getting through this season before worrying about next. I don't think a surge into Europe was expected, but I think Villa's struggles for points, up until recently, has taken them by surprise.
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:13:52 AM
Hi Matt at the moment we look safe, but that could all change, how many more games do we need to win to be sure to stop up.....
by Mark4/8/2013 11:14:22 AM
Matt, did PL mention anything about the Fulham game, as in keeping his feet firmly on the ground after this win, as I've been a fan long enough to know Villa always do things the hard way.
by Maradona104/8/2013 11:14:33 AM
Fulham, Sunderland and Wigan all winnable. With a delightful trip to Old Trafford along the way.
by Mikey4/8/2013 11:14:40 AM
We heard you were a lover, not a fighter Matt!
by Tim4/8/2013 11:14:57 AM
G, I don't want to tempt fate, but I'm much more confident than I was before I went away for a few weeks ahead of the Arsenal/Man City game. Games against Fulham at Villa Park are the big ones for me. Win those and I think Villa will be (virtually) safe, regardless of how Norwich do
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:15:11 AM
Would u describe Lambert as a manager or a coach Mat or a bit of both? To me it's interesting that the 2 in form teams in bottom half us & Southampton - both have managers who seem to me to be coaches in the main.
by JulieBayleyIFA4/8/2013 11:16:05 AM
Anynewsofpetrovmat, The last I heard, the manager said he was doing well. There is talk of him being offered a coaching role in the summer, but I don't think he would be well enough to take on anything like that yet.
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:16:34 AM
Al, I saw a bit of fuss on twitter/instagram the other night about BB supposedly having a strop after being left out of the squad on Saturday, but don't know how true that is. Interesting stat that before Saturday Bannan had played in six of seven of Villa's league wins this season. I just don't think the manager thought the Stoke match was right for Bannan - and the result proved him right
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:18:14 AM
Tim, I think if Villa stay up Benteke will stay. If Villa go down, Benteke will go
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:18:38 AM
Mark, two more wins should do it, I think
by Mat Kendrick4/8/2013 11:18:58 AM
With Man Yoo announcing a 15m deal to sponsor the training ground how does anyone compete? What do we get for shirt sponsor 1m a year??
by G4/8/2013 11:19:32 AM
Mat. Looking at the players that have made little or no impact ths year ( Dunne, Ireland, Given, Bent, Makoun and Hutton ), I estimate a possible salary saving of £15M a year. How easy is i gong to be to move these players on ?
by Leam Villa4/8/2013 11:19:49 AM
People, could you help me out. I'm doing a piece for tomorrow's paper about Villa's best Premier League goals - in the light of Lowton's cracker. Dean Saunders v Ipswich, Dalian Atkinson v Wimbledon are two obvious ones - which other ones get your vote?!
