Why on earth would we want Hutton back in the squad? He was horrific last season, and Matt Lowton has proven to be quite a solid right back so far...I know who I'd rather have on the pitch
by ChrisHazeldine11/19/2012 1:17:23 PM
Why do people blame Lerner, he gave Mclsih 20m last season and Lambert had 20m in the summer, other teams would love to have that much in transfer funds. This is all Lambert's doing and his arrogance.
by Jon11/19/2012 1:17:33 PM
No wonder Martinez kept turning us down. We are with an over hyped manager who is good for League Two
by Rabbit11/19/2012 1:18:16 PM
Agree 100% with Paul_Crombie. Big question marks over Clark. Vlaar has not been happy all season.
by Sporting_Genius11/19/2012 1:18:22 PM
Anybody that thinks Hutton is a better player than Lowton has clearly been drinking toio much, Lowton has been one of our best players this year hasn't he?
by Reggie Munns11/19/2012 1:18:28 PM
Find it strange people calling for Hutton, Lowton has been one of the plus points.
by Rob11/19/2012 1:18:36 PM
Thats's not satisfactory. If he said it in Belgium to Belgiums why would it be a misquote? He thinks he made a mistake signing for Villa especially if he thought we were in London
by Mark11/19/2012 1:18:49 PM
Lerner presided over the worst NFL franchise around and he's obviously clueless about sok-her
by Jock11/19/2012 1:18:58 PM
Hello Mr Fear, I'm good, you? As for the football, I said at the start of the season that the main objective was simply for it to 'be better'. By that I meant more points, better style of play and more entertaining matches. Think it's too soon to judge yet. But, right now, these are concerning times, albeit with hope for the future
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:18:59 PM
Mike83, agree there's going to be lots of ups and downs. Can I swap a point at the weekend for 20 points by Christmas please?!
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:19:44 PM
Colin, presumably because he can't say he hasn't got faith in his players. He is economical with his words
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:20:29 PM
Paul_Crombie, I'd have Dunne in there if/when he is fit. Yes, we all know that he is prone to an occasional error, but we also know that he can be a leader (I'm thinking Albion away last season)
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:21:32 PM
Would relegation from the prem be a good thing ? I.e Reaching the bottom clearing out and building a.la newcastle ?
by Vego11/19/2012 1:21:34 PM
Hi Mat. How far off is Dunne from starting? I think Clark is struggling and Vlaar needs the help. Rumours are Dunne is one of the players Lambert wants out.
by Rob11/19/2012 1:21:48 PM
PL not doing to well so far could AVFC have picked the wrong guy again and if so just how much longer can Learner keep going as owner.Surely he must be thinking of giving up the club has been heading downwards for 3 seasons now.The fans are rightly dispondent about the whole situation.Surely sponsers as well are not going to want anything to do with us soon ..they is no positivity coming from the club
by David Nab11/19/2012 1:22:33 PM
Mark, there's no doubt that the chairman has made mistakes along the way, but I don't recall there being too much objection to Lambert's appointment, and it was the manager's choice to invest the summer cash the way he has done. I still think if Villa stay up then the club will be in a stronger place next summer, but currently it is too close for comfort
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:23:32 PM
I find it amazing that fas want dunne, hutton warnock etc back. we will be fine, lambert would never have come unbless he thought we woulddo better than norwich surely!!!!
by tim11/19/2012 1:23:50 PM
I reckon we should try and get Downing back.
by Stroudvilladan11/19/2012 1:23:56 PM
Everyone keeps saying that it's still early days, but how long can that last? We're nearly a third of the way into the season and I for one am very concerned.
by Sam11/19/2012 1:24:05 PM
Bannedrico, bit of a kop out this, but that is a question for the chairman...
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:24:06 PM
Is Lambert a secret agent sent by O Neill to destroy Villa. Lambert admitted he gets advice from MON.
by Jon11/19/2012 1:24:14 PM
All of Lambert's positive rhetoric he sounds more and more like Billy Mcneill.
by JIm11/19/2012 1:24:16 PM
Matt , any idea when Bent / Nzog / Bennet and NZOG will be fit
by David Nab11/19/2012 1:24:43 PM
Simon T, this is the biggest job Paul Lambert has ever had. He has unflinching faith he can get it right.
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:24:55 PM
In a nutshell doesn't it seem apparent that Randy needs to give Lambert reasonable funds to sign 3 or 4 experienced players to supplement the promising youngsters in January? If Randy doesn't provide sensible funds and/or Lambert spends the money on more youngsters we are going to be relegation fodder as the squad simply isn't good enough or experienced enough?
by Chris Chris11/19/2012 1:24:59 PM
My concern is that although Villa are a young side coming together, there appears to be very few sides that are likely to finish below us. I can see QPR getting Rednapp and improving, Southampton hammered us and are picking up results, Norwich look good, arguably only Reading are weaker, and currently they are above us. Name three worse sides?
by worldvilla11/19/2012 1:25:42 PM
The problem I have with the way Hutton and Warnock were treated, is the fact that it sent out a message that any of the players can treated this way. He didn't even look at them before banishing them to train with the kids, they did not appear to break any club rules for this punishment. Plus any of the players that were good mates with them would be upset about it too. They should have a least been training with the team just to keep a good morale and they probably would have got some buyers then.
by Cork Villian11/19/2012 1:26:24 PM
SportingGenuis, I think the general consensus is that, with his recruitment policy, it is either a stroke of genius or a recipe for disaster. Only time will tell which
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:26:35 PM
would you agree at least one but preferably 2 top quality centre mids would make a huge difference in January?
by bannedrico11/19/2012 1:26:39 PM
All well Mat. Agree with what you say, it is early. My worry, which I know you share, was how the Saints took us apart. Man Utd/Man City, meh, expected (sadly, it does hurt to say that) but we have to be beating newly promoted. My focus is on Reading, QPR, Stoke and then later in Dec, Wigan. We don't win those and it will be major gulp time. Jan is the same, winnable games, got to get some points from them.
I do think the lack of experience is going to bite and I don't think Dunne can bring the right sort of experience (or fitness)
Not sure I can see many jumping to sign for us in Jan either, can you?
by JP Fear11/19/2012 1:26:49 PM
Dunne as a sweeper !!! His passing is atrocious, he cant run and is always liable to drop a clanger. Rather have Clarke as a Sweeper if it came down to it. We need to attack Arsenal because at the moment its our best wa of defending !
by Mark11/19/2012 1:26:54 PM
Pointing the finger at Lerner, but it was most likely Faulkener who has appointed the last 3 bosses..
by Sporting_Genius11/19/2012 1:27:04 PM
On a positive note, i do have faith in Lambert, at least he seems to have a medium and long term plan, squeaky bum time at the minute, but i have confidence we'll survive and i believe Lambert has the drive and knowledge to drive our great club forward
by Paul_Crombie11/19/2012 1:27:23 PM
Do you think Villa need a new system in place, in terms of the club signings/scouting. Or just need investment in January?
by Brunswick St11/19/2012 1:27:43 PM
dazzautv, I think Villa's Prem position come January will have a major bearing on how much is spent. Financially relegation is a disaster for Lerner, but I wouldn't start thinking that he doesn't care about Villa. He still cares.
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:28:05 PM
The performances against Sunderland and Manchester United i thought were excellent. Yes we lost after going 2-0 up but do you think that the team are starting to gel and when we come up against mid-table teams we will start to pick up points? either way we need to start picking up points fast.
by Sam11/19/2012 1:29:02 PM
Even if Lambert gets more money in January I'm sure he won't sign experienced players and there's no way he would get Dowining even though that would be a good bet
by JIm11/19/2012 1:29:05 PM
Christophegera, take your point. That is an area where Villa need to strengthen - and where they have needed to strengthen for some years now
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:29:24 PM
Jon, I'm sure most Villa fans would settle for a run of dull one-nils right now.
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:30:45 PM
Jock, don't know. I was getting grief for not sticking the boot into the former manager this time last year
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:31:17 PM
Hey Matt... What do people expect? We have been stripped bare in the last 3 seasons.... People need to keep the faith it is a long road back, but the signs are all there of improvement. Lambert is instilling an ethic that has long been missing in the team and as always its a case of 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Investment in January is a must... But on 2 players. a CB and a CM that can use the ball but add some steal... we need a players who will rattle oponents physically... I'd love Morrison at WBA, we missed out on him... However I think Lambert will continue with the policy of young potential and fingers cross that will be enough to lift us away... but this season is all about survival... this was to be expected... why are people shocked?

I think if we are in the drop zone in Jan big money will be spent.Going down is a financial disaster.
by David Nab11/19/2012 1:31:53 PM
We should've got Hughton he is a brilliant manager and coach.
by Alan11/19/2012 1:31:56 PM
Reggie, I agree Lowton has been good. I don't necessarily want Hutton to play. I just find it pointless him training with the kids. Somehow, Villa/Hutton need to take a financial hit and move him out, if he is not going to be involved with first team squad
by Mat Kendrick11/19/2012 1:33:26 PM
Why do people suddenly think that lambert is awful because we lost to Man Utd and Man City? And why do people think that Chris Hughton is a fanta
